Why do population steal doormats?

What do they do with them afterwards? Three doormats of mine are gone!

Answers: to hold around to the back door &tender the same culture a bargain also save them buying one or to be just pains surrounded by the but.

conceivably an animal took it.... or maybe the citizens were homeless inhabitants and are using them as blankets...
