1st do some research (Like you are now) so you don't end up in the E.R.
They're fun, they will upset your stomach a little, due to a small amount of strychnine (poison) that is in them. If you take them, do not take too many, remember even illegal drugs have a recommended dosages. Liberty caps aka blue ringers are most commonly taken, 12 to 18 is enough, any more and you'll wish you'd taken less (speaking from experience). I took too many a couple times, and had out of body experiences (also know as near death!), and a few conversations with the man upstairs.
Just remember to stay home, the public shouldn't have to deal with you. And don't freak out, you may need to remind yourself that you're just high and it will go away after about 10 - 12 hours, so try to stay in touch with reality, what I mean is don't talk yourself into believing things like you can fly, a lot of people have done that and ended up dead. Day time is best time to take them because you won't be going to sleep, and you won't eat cause nothing will sound good. And the next day you'll feel kinda crappy, run down, exhausted, dazed and foggy headed but it goes away. I've done them about 5 times when I was younger, but never will again.
Hope this helps, and I hope you make the right choice. They're an interesting experience, but my advise is, don't take them.

Psilocybin, sometimes misspelled psilocybine, is a psychedelic alkaloid of the tryptamine family. It is present in many species of fungi, notoriously those of the genus Psilocybe, such as Psilocybe cubensis and Psilocybe semilanceata (Liberty Caps), but also reportedly isolated from a dozen or so other genera. Psilocybin-containing mushrooms are commonly called magic mushrooms or simply "shrooms." Effects of psilocybin are comparable to those of a shorter LSD trip, although intensity and duration vary depending on dosage, individual physiology, and set and setting.
If you don't know exactly what you are doing, you could wind up dead. I know somebody who ended up in arrested and in the hospital in intensive care for 5 days because he jumped out of a moving car and fought the police. Discover magazine had a good article about the different types and their morphology about a year ago. Good read.
