You can make a compost pile. in in you put grass clippings, leaves, spoiled or remains of veggies/ fruit, egg shells, coffee grounds and even some news paper. It will take a while, but all this will decompose and make ricch soil. To decompose it needs sunlight and some (very little) water. You will also need to stir it every once in a while.
Feed some worms. They poop dirt.
Composting will make a form of dirt. Vegetable matter, yard waste and a small amount of manure put in a pile and turned over once in a while will become excellent dirt.
If you've got a lot of time you can cut down some trees, let them sit for a few years with some brush, leaves, pine needles and other stuff and voila! dirt. Soft wood (pine) is best for this method.
