whats the best position for a fan in my living room?

I'm hot and I want to put my fan in the best position to get the maximum coolness. Any ideas?

In the late afternoon, put it in the window facing backwards to draw the hot air out. Once it gets dark and starts to cool down, turn it around.

Put up a ceiling fan. thay are realley great!
Face it to blow the hot air out at night and open another window for the cold air to be sucked in by the force. when the sun comes up, close all the windows. there is no best position while the windows are closed. if you have air conditioning, point it at the spot the cold air come from to help circulate
