anybody know a non toxic way to get rid of ants in a house?
Answers:
If you can find where they are getting into your house [easier said then done, unforunetly], draw a chalk line between their entrance and your house. They will never cross it.
Other answers:
Slowly sneak up behind it, then press firmly with your finger, or any close object, and smoosh it. Very non-toxic!

Not really nontoxic, but Windex is great for wiping out a swarm on your kitchen counter. The rest quit coming in too.
Get an anteater for a pet.
Employ the services of an aadvark?
Boric acid, cayenne, keeping house clean!
I heard peppermint extract will repel ants.
Haven't tried it first hand.
Seriously though....just use a couple of drops of Terro brand killer, they eat it, they die....you are happy. Then go plant a tree to make up for it.
Interesting, because I had a huge influx of both little red ants and big black ants today. I was doing the sneak and squish method, but this got to be a bit much so I went out and bought some Raid traps. So we'll see. I've read that they don't like nutmeg and cinnamon, but that's kind of expensive to experiment with. Have typed all these words, but my answer is, "I don't know." I don't have a dirty, garbage ridden house. I just scrubbed the bathroom with bleach water and that didn't keep them away.
Your best course of action is to consult the services of a professional exterminator. They have the tools to eliminate the infestation. I recommend searching the Safety Source for Pest Management database for a pest control operator in your area that uses the least toxic methods.

First, you need to find out where they are coming from. Then,Pour Cream of Wheat on the anthills. It kills the ants. Each ant eats a tiny grain of wheat and it expands in its stomach, causing it to bloat and die.In the house, spray with white vinegar. It will kill the ants.
Tighter Border controls.
