How do you rig a door to open with a button like the VFW or AMVETS have?

The device you are looking for is an "electric lock" they are available from any Locksmith or lock shop (DIY stores can't help you). As the name implies this will require some electrical wiring. Usually it is an electrified "strike" in the door jamb. It will have to be mortised into the door jamb, wired to a power supply, and some sort of a controller (wired or wireless button) what ever you choose.

Remember, if its electronic, then anyone with electonic skills who want to break into the house, can ultimately do so!
Plus, you have to worry about a power shortage! You may not be able to get into the house through that door, or, if its wired to keep the door closed while the power is on, then you may not be able to secure the door...
