Do I need planning permission to convert an integral garage to a self-contained granny annexe/holiday unit?
Answers:
If you are adding LIVABLE square footage, you may need a permit. So, yes.

At home we converted half our garage into a study.
When we queried it with the council they said providing we didn't put a an external window or external door onto it there were no probs
I'd double check though because that was a few years back
