How do I calculate the square footage of my apartment?

I'm curious as to just how many square feet my small apartment has, but I'm not sure how to go about it. It's basically one long rectangle, so should I just measure the length and width, multiply them, and disregard the walls and whatnot? Or should I figure out each individual room and then add them all together? I'm not sure what the standard method is.

Thanks! :)

Answers:
multiply the length and width of each room (A = L X W)
Then add the areas together.

Other answers:
The way its usually done is to measure each room's square footage (length times width) then add up all the room's for a total. And of course if you have an irregular room, you break it into smaller rectangles or other geometric shapes and measure each of those and add them up for the total for that room.

Yes, length x width equals square feet is the simplest. Measuring each room is more time consuming.
Forget the walls. Just measure the length and width. Then, it is just: L x W = A. L is length, W is width, and A is area.
