I have heard that moth balls work but i cant say for sure.I know it stinks
get a backyard with out any snakes

a mongoose should keep snakes away. If the mongoose becomes a problem you will have to get a wolf. Should the wolf become to much to handle you will need a lion. Now if the lion gives you any trouble an elephant will do nicely. The elephant may get to big so of chores you will need a mouse to scare it off. If you don't like mice get a Snake.
I would learn what kinds of places snakes like, and try to eliminate them. Contact your local Extension Service.
Place chicken wire around the border of the yard to keep snakes out if they are that bad.
Just clean your backyard and get rid it with burrows dug by rodents. Most snakes lives in burrows. Snakes are not as dangerous as believe. they don`t strike unless provoked. I catch snakes for more than 20 years, and I am sure, all snake repellant I have seen are inefective, dont bother look for them. You have nothing to worry.
a 12 gauge should do the trick

I lived in a very rural neighborhood at the bottom of a mountain. We had black, copperhead, and rattlesnakes. Our dog kept our yard snake free. It sounds stupid but it worked for me.
