I want to have a basic closet done -not a huge walk in- with two units of drawers in the middle and hanging space on either side. I know that they will come out and give a free estimate- but I was hoping to not be totally surprised with the pricing. I just want to know, am I looking at like $1000 or $3000.. if anyone can help, I would really appreciate it.

I just built a new home, and I requested a quote from California Closets and I couldn't get a response. So, my impression of them is pretty poor.
Instead, I used easyclosets.com. We installed it ourselves--it went very well, and I did three walk-in closets for about $3000.
