Batteries contained by the fridge?

I have hear that putting new battery in the fridge will help out in prolonging their duration before using them. Is this true?

Answers:    I know this worked on the matured batteries...not sure it does anything for the latest ones...but I'm sure it couldn't hurt them.

Oh...and it doesn't 'recharge' them.
Yes somehow it recharges them
