Gasoline & M80 fireworks! No seriously there are 2 items you need. 1st Andro's fire ant bait which will kill exisiting ants. 2nd Ortho's fire ant preventer. This will stop future ant from residing in your yard.

Best of Luck!
Why do you want to kill ants in your yard? I could understand if they were in your house but ants are good and useful for the ecosystem. You shouldn't kill them if they're outside. If you kill the ants it'll mess up the ecosystem and therefore will be harmful to animals.
The cheapest and most effective thing I have found to date is scalding hot water right into the anthill. This will get rid of the ants this year but they may be back next year so you do it again. Costs nothing and doesn't harm the environment.
