Use fans during the day, and your a/c at night...enjoy outdoors more often even if it's just to go out and read or watch the cars go by, wash your clothing 1x pr.wk., use God's given light during the day, and at night use low wattage lightning, make sure you check your weatherstripping around your windows and doors, replace if necessary, change your filters in your house 1x pr.month. Learn what consumption of electricty each appliance uses then use them accordaly to what they use. I have trimmed 50 dollars off my bill by doing the same thing and using the BBQ Grill more for my everyday cooking. And it keeps my kitchen from getting so hot
Set your thermostat higher / lower than the norm. I set my a/c at 77 in the summer and 70 in the winter. My bills are so much lower than the neighbor who has the same house layout -- she keeps her house like an icebox (about 70 in the summer)
Definitely turn off the computer monitor even when you don't shut the whole computer down. They can really drain power.

Anything that heats, cools or pumps tends to use a lot of electricity. If you have an electric water heater, turn down the thermostat so that it doesn't heat the water so hot. 120 degrees should be more than enough (most have a few settings; if you adjust it yourself, please disconnect the power first, for safety's sake). Don't turn off the water heater unless you're going to be gone for a few days (or, if it's just you & you can make the hot water last 3 days at a time)--otherwise it uses a lot of electricity getting the water re-heated each time. (I'm told that a timer doesn't save much, about $5/year, but I've no experience with those.) You can replace your regular lightbulbs with compact flourescent lights. They use less electricity, don't get hot like incandescent bulbs, and they last a lot longer than normal lightbulbs (they cost more initially, but more than make up for it--read packaging; some can't be used in wet areas [like bathrooms] or outside). Dishwashers actually use less hot water than handwashing dishes, usually-just make sure you set yours on "air dry" instead of "hot dry." Also, wash your laundry with cold water...and hang it up to dry instead of putting it through a clothes dryer.
