planning permission in the UK?

I want to build a house on my land, to sell. dont want to waste money on rejected planning apps. How do I find out if the idea is likely to be accepted or not, or if it would be a waste of everyones time - or do I just have to spend money on plans and applications? Would be a shame when I dont have much to spare.

Answers:
first u need planning permission and that includes paying the fee to see if it will get except or not.
they mainly accept ppl who land is quite bid and that u are demolishing any other property on the land and ther is onli a total of one dwelling on the land. if you going to do thi ther will also be restrictions of the size of the house. it really depends where in the uk u live and what area u want to build in. need any more info just contact me
