how long should a fridge stand after being moved?

The guy at my electronics shop (a pro) said 8 hours minimum, but I have no idea whether this was from experience, or if he'd ever explored other options.
Overnight is most convenient, I guess, if you have no pressing need to restock it sooner. Just get someone to help you move it in the evening, then fill it up again before noon the next day.

If you have laid it over on its side, it drains all of the fluid out of the compressor, depending on how long it was that way, you need to let it stand for between 8-12 hours before pluging it in.
I let mine stand for 24 hours, 'cos I was lazy. But I think they recommend 12
