Can a room air conditioner be used stood up instead of laying flat like suggested? Have slider windows now.?
Answers:
You might find one that will work that way, but generally no. The refrigerant inside the tubing is designed to flow downward as a liquid due to gravity. Air conditioners are designed to work within certain tolerances in position. Generally, they should tilt slightly downward as they hang out the window. Any other position than what it's designed for is asking for problems.

There are kits to perform that which include a bottom bracket. The best choice would be to get a unit made specifically to fit in a sliding window.
No-there are parts that won't work properly unless flat, including the compressor, and the expansion valve
A room window air conditioner should be used in the proper horizontal operating position. There is a water 'pan' and drain in the bottom of most which will drip when full to an outside vent or hose. Many use a sliding window with an A.C. Just have a piece of plexiglass cut to fill the space from the top of the A.C. to the top of the sliding window. Available at most glass shops.
