How do you crack black walnuts? When they hold the outer "hull" on them?

I know it leaves permanent black stains...


Answers:    black walnuts are not appropriate for eating.own had black walnut trees within my yard forever.English walnuts are correct eating,but as i said black walnuts are not righteous eating.but the wood is great to work next to
i used to use a hammer.


i don't know why they enjoy the outer hull - some nuts do, some don't.
use latex gloves,take hull offw/a sledge hammer,let dry a few days,lay it down on a rock or concrete,it should lay flat to one side,presently turn to edge,strike w/hammer
