my yard is sand I want to plan year round green grass, I live in Florence, SC what would be the best grass?
Answers:
Maintaining a lawn is bad for the environment. The amount of pollution put in the air from mowing it, compared the the amount of oxygen it produces, makes lawns a loosing proposition.
Try using rocks for a rock garden, put some nice boulders as focal points and add some native plants so you won't have to tend to them often.
The only way you will get a nice lawn is to buy one. The sand makes a bad base for sod so pro's would have to come in and lay a foundation soil, then sod, then you would have to spend the summer watering it (another bad thing for the environment) and if you are lucky, the areas where there are no trees will live.

St Augustine grass grows great in both sun and shade. Here in Florida it is the choice, and our climate is similar to yours. Good luck!
The way to find the best grass for you is to ask your county extension agent. This is a great service most people don't know abuot. He or she knows you soil, climate, and what is available to you locally, as well as pests and diseases that may be a problem in SC.
