is it okay if i use a 100 volt light bulb for a 60 volt lamp?

Answers:
I am assuming that you are talking about a using 100 watt bulb in a lamp that has a 60 watt "recommendation".

It's not a good idea.

The people who put the limitations on their products don't want to limit the light. They want to limit the heat that the light bulb generates. More than 90% of the electric power that you put into a bulb is wasted as heat. And a 100 wat bulb naturally burns hotter than a 60 watt bulb.

The 60 watt rating on a lamp is an indication of how cheap the component parts are and how much heat the lamp fixture can stand before it overheats, or something melts, or a paper lamp shade burns, or....

Other answers:
no, you could, but it's a HUGE fire hazard.

You would probably lose out on any sort of insurance claim for negligence if they could prove that you were using a bulb with too high of voltage.

of course it is...But I will share this: I've notice when you do that, the bulbs tend to blow out faster. I do it all the time cause i like it bright..:)
I do it all the time, but as someone else pointed out they burn out super fast. And if you have a lamp shade on the lamp it may burn or melt the lampshade.
The 60 watt rating is mainly for heat range as a higher wattage bulb gives off more heat and can damage the fixture and or create a fire hazard. If you would like more light from the fixture you could use one of those fluorescent "spiral" lamps as they give off more light per wattage and much less heat.
no, you can short out your lamp or light fixture
