Why is my yard being taken over by slugs?

could be worse. they could all be in your bed.
Other answers:
put salt on them
put salt on them
don't use salt. it'll kill your lawn. use something else that kill slugs and doesn't kill your lawn. local hardware stores usually carry something for it.
It could be from moisture. Try an insecticide like Merit
You said it , it rained today, as you probally know the slugs can handle the rain up until the ground get saturated , that's when the slugs must come out, when the ground reaches saturation. Great time to pull out your old sand wedge, or the 9 iron and putt, or punt a few!
They seem to be creatures of habit and so if they were there last year they may have multiplied in that same place. Just wait til next year and you may have to move!
No kidding, though, don't be afraid of baits. If you have animals that might pick up the granules then go to SLUGGO. It may not be the best but if you are persistent you may win the battle. I like the strong stuff. Read the labels at the nursery, hardware stores, and good ole Walmart or Home Depot.
Moisture is always what brings the slugs out. You can get some ducks, like I have. They LOVE to eat slugs. But more practically, you can use slug bait (pellets or powder), or kill them by hand (I snip them in half with a scissors.)
Not 100% on this but i think alcohol works, place some (beer i think) in small buckets around your garden, I think they are attracted to it but it kill's them, plus it's better for your garden
