How much would it cost to set up a simple home surveillence camera & recorder?

We have cleared out our garage and started putting our vehicle awy in here at night but it is going on for 200 yards away. Last darkness my husband discovered that soemone had ried one of the locks on it. However, we enjoy a clear view of the garage door form our kitchen fanlight on the first floor of our flat. So how much .......? and exactly what would we need.

Answers:    200 yard away, that is far! If you enjoy power in the garage you could fit a camera and recorder section (simple HD Recorder) i nthe garage but it means you could not monitor it from the flat unless you run a cable from the garage to the flat. Failing that, a wireless camera unit might work, at 200 yard line of verbs, it might be pushing it distance wise.

If you required to rig a camera up from the flat, you would need an gleaming professional quality camera near a high standard lens for that distance.

Might be worth getting an a,arm or extra security locks on the garage instead?

If you GOOGLE scour CCTV Home, it will give you loads of links or even move about to a home security shop and ask at hand advice. They would probably proposition you a free survey of what you would need and grant you different prices depending on what you are prepared to spend...

I work for them.
You can actually set up a small webcam surrounded by the corner of the garage and wire it to be compatible near your home computer. I have a friend who did that. It isn't terrifically expensive. Go to Best Buy and they can explain the wiring and what you will entail. They have kit for that. Good luck.
Cheap ones about lb100, connect it to your tv or video. Last time I looked, Argos have some in their register.
Your problems could be solved by going to www.x10.com and searching for surveillance cameras.
Mine cost me around $50.00 per camera and the controller was included at no extra charge
you can acquire a unit at loews or the home depot..you will tag on the recorder..i would put up lights all around near a hidden movement detector
The camera is the straightforward part at present, but what to record it on is profoundly harder. I am a fan of X10 stuff because it is pretty user friendly. You can win a VCR commander which you can program to start recording when a motion sensor is triggered. Good use for an dated VCR. I saw this package surrounded by my email the other day for $140 - it coems next to a lot of stuff and I thought the floodlight cam be a cool idea. Or you can try and find software to record on a PC.
It really depends on how much coverage you really want. I use to work surveillance and we have about 5 hundred cameras. Back to the point if you enjoy a camera what are you going to do if you see something. Personally I would stick with a motion sensor pale. It is only just about 20 dollars. There many wireless camera systems on eBay that also would do of late five and even some you can run from a desktop.
Argus have a screening of CCTV cameras and I would say you would carry a good one for in the order of EUR100 complete with cable etc, etc.
Your garage is 200 yard away? That is 2 football/soccer fields long..wow what a pace...
