I have a cardinal (bird) that keeps taping on my window, please make it STOP!?

Every year there's a cardinal that comes and taps on my window, every spring, it usually ends by summer, it's NOT the same bird, one year it was a female and this year it's a male, although I hear cardinals don't migrate and mate for life so it could be the same "couple" I just want to know what to do to get them to STOP! I've tried feeding them (because I read an article that said they will do that when they are hungry) didn't TOUCH the bird seed and kept tapping on the window, anyone know WHY or what I can do to get them to stop, besides being annoying they are dirtying up my windows, but mostly driving me NUTS!

Hey! You got that stupid bird I had at my window. She kept attacking her reflection. She left when I put the plastic crow in the bush. A plastic owl would probably work too. I have also seen her attacking the side view mirror on the truck, but that wasn't a problem.

The bird see itself in your window. And it thinks another bird is in it's territory.usually happens during mating season.Throw the seed on the ground away from your window,Cardinals are ground feeders.See if that helps.
Hey there... you ought to be happy that a wild bird(s) have decided to have you for something that they want to spend some time with.
And beins as it is a different bird each year is really neat.
Maybe it is a relative?
What ever it is doing by spending time with you, your really should feel privileged to have something from nature and 'out of the blue' want to be with you.
Take your time and just look at it. You really are very lucky to have this happen to you.
Enjoy it while you can.
BB gun will do the trick.
Ka'De and ke_su both offer good suggestions. But I know how frustrating it is, and what a difficult behavior it is to stop. They ARE attracted to their own reflection, so if the window isn't in an obvious location, try taking a bar of Ivory Soap and rubbing it all over the window. (Yes! Soap your own window! It'll clean off later!) This will cut the reflection, and the smell and texture will confuse the bird. The CD idea wight work, too -- but I'd guess you'd need a few.

Have you noticed that it is only at a certain time of day? If so, it's probably when the sun is most reflective off that window. If you can do it, position a "sun block" that will deflect the reflection during the time that the bird attacks.

If worse comes to worse -- hire a cat for "protection." Good luck!
Birds go crazy when they see another bird in their territory! I've seen birds attack their reflections in car window, car mirrors, and on house windows.

Highly reflective glass is the problem. If you can get rid of the reflections, the attacks will stop.

On a car, it's easy to drape cloth on the outside of the car, blocking the windows. On a house, you have to attach blinds on the outside, or something similar that covers the window.

I have bamboo window blinds hanging on a few of my big windows, and those block the sun, the birds, but still allow us to see out.

Some people make paper cut outs of predatory birds and stick those on their windows to keep birds from flying into the windows. If a bird thinks a predator is there, it will probably not attack it's refection. Just use black construction paper and draw a silhuette of a local predator, a small hawk should work. Place such a bird silhuette on each window.
