Why are house numbers non-sequential?

They go by the distance between the intersections rather than sequential. You live very close to the middle of the block.

It could be the way the land was originally parceled up. If there is a lot of land seperating houses, that can affect how they are numbered.
If I remember correctly it is all based off the plats that are created when the areas are sectioned off for different zoning, township, village, city and county lines.

I can only imagine....you live on an irregular block...with large lots...or one that was reclaimed for a number of smaller lots. If all the blocks are numbered the same as yours....ask your mail carrier.

THEY ARE SEQUENTIAL. MEASURE FROM CORNER OF THE BLOCK TO YOUR FRONT DOOR--THEN ADD-SUBSTRACT MEASUREMENTS TO NEIGHBORS DOORS. OPPOSITE SIDE STREET ARE HOUSES WHOSE DOORS END ON ODD NUMBERS.
there was a lot of confusion in the old days when someone built two houses on the same plot extra and they had to go to 512A or 512b for example,,,later when they decided to put in all the 911
emergency services to better locate people and to allow for future expansion.. they left gaps to fill in later,, i own 20 acres with a 500 foot front,, my old home was 4212 then i built another home just one feet away on this same property but now my addy is 4233!!
