A fire extinguisher, ladder and a cell phone.
I don't know if they're still available. But I remember when I be a kid, the family have a ladder made of metal rungs associated together by chain, beside a couple of grapples at the top that you could hook over a window to hold it. You without doubt will want a couple of harnesses to abet you carry the kids.
Alternately, if the issue really worries you, you could hold ladders attached to the house outside the porthole, either right on the wall itself or down from little balcony outside the window.

You can install escape ladders within specific rooms around the top floor. They install between the studs under window and become virtually invisible. Also keep flashlights within several areas upstairs. You should have a phone upstairs specifically not cordless in luggage the electricity goes out. The "old" phones will still work. I hold a gun up stairs and downstairs in suitcase of unwanted intruders but I understand that does not settle okay with everyone. Also, rehearse your plans. Allow your 3 year old-fashioned to climb down the ladder. Practice carrying the counterbalance of your infant without carrying him. It is crucial to rehearse your action plans so you do not enjoy to think within an emergency. We do this in our house hold. We own designated spots for several emergencies to include tornados.
Cell phone, baseball bat, tire iron, tennis bat, fire extinguisher, boat horn, shotgun, panic alarm, dog, cat, mouse, worms, knife and plates (for throwing)
