Amaryllis.?

I've had one on my windowsill for a couple of years. It flowered the first year but ending year it didn't although it grew huge long leaves. I cut them back a couple of months ago and basically left it on the windowsill, didn't even hose down it and now it's growing again. In times gone by week it has grown over 4 inches and is roughly speaking to flower. Is this normal?
I thought it be more of a Christmas plant which is why I bought it in the first place.

Answers:    Lots pf plants flower one year and afterwards have a rest while they "earn strength". This is quite adjectives on things that have to produce something of a 'fair size' - surrounded by this case, those stunning flowers - but things like fruit trees normally do well one year and consequently do very little the following year and next go cracked again the year after that. It's just temper having a rest !
Mine, resembling yours, is kept on the windowsill. (but not in direct sunlight) It flowers every year as long as it's not watered contained by between growing spurts and is cut right back to the bulb after flowering.
Mine usually grows to more or less a foot tall previously it actually blooms. 3 flowers is typical, but I enjoy had as few as 2 or as several as 4.
I don't know about you, but it reminds me of a man's 'bits' earlier it opens :-\
i own lots of amaryllises. the trick to make it flower is to breed it suffer a little - i put mine outside contained by spring and they start flowering in summer. next i put them inside in autumn and they start flowering again. the act in response on stress by flowering. so u gave yours stress by not watering it. all right done. when it finishes flowering u do not cut leaves immediately. tolerate it stay with leaves for some time. after cut leaves and stop watering. resourcefully, u know yourself by now
