Anythign I can put on my futon to build it softer to sleep on?

I've been sleeping in my futon while my room is getting renovated but I'm not kid when I say it's THE most uncomfortable item to sleep on. It's gotten to the point where I'm getting some pretty bad final pain from it and since it's only pro tem, I'm wondering if there is something I can buy that I can put on top of the futon to sort it softer? I was thikning those eggshell cover things but I'm not sure that they really work or not? Anyone know anything inexpensive that would work?

Answers:    Does your futon have "slats" or a solid frame? Is the discomfort because your body is sentiment the pressure from these slats or is it just too hard a surface for your body? I sleep on a futon from time to time and I've found that insulation REALLY is your friend.

I have a foam topper which I place over the futon mattress... an egg-crate mattress on top of that... later a fitted sheet to hold it all together. It really makes a difference!!
Get yourself an inflatable mattress. I enjoy a queen size coleman, and it was only similar to 30 or 35$ at walmart. It comes with it,s own pump and even if you put it on the floor it is easy to put up or down and is comfortable. When your done next to it, it folds up to a small package and is handy to take camp or when company comes.
