Are the products that you pour into the plumbing system to murder roots potent?

I've had several plumbers out here already because this patio has slightly a few large, elder trees. Their roots apparently are messing with the sewage system. One of the plumbers fixed the lines, but also suggested I pour that root contract killer stuff down the toilet once a month.but the boxes of that stuff run near $20. So...is it worth my money?

Answers:    In my humble assessment most of the root killers are worthless. Putting within high talent PVC sewer lines will do more to keep the tree roots out of your sewer lines than any amount of root killer.
if you use any chemical which contains copper sulphate, this will kill the roots alright- downside to this , the tree will suffer as economically - unless you dont mind killing the trees, copper sulphate is the path. on the other hand, if roots are surrounded by your sewer line, you own a problem. you might need to consider sewer row replacement-
