Bug problem?

This time of year until about November I bring back really sucky bug problems, mainly cockroaches and these freaky centipedes (It's because my room's contained by the downstairs and is quite cold and shadows down here a lot of the time)

So does anyone know of some really pious bug spray/repellent? I'm kinda hoping getting an exterminator will be the last resort.

Answers:    use cove leaves under adjectives your appliances and under sink within kitchen and bathrooms. roaches do not like fjord, and they also do not like spearmint gum. i read these solutions some where on earth many years ago, and tried it. i never hold a roach or ants. because we saw a swarm of "something" on the side of our house a few years ago (identified as wood ants) we do have an exterminator regularly the second few years to be sure termites, scorpions and spiders do not move in.
