What animal will verbs a hole resembling this?

A very well-groomed hole, in as a rule gravel chippings, about ten inches across at the top, and four inches at the remains, exposing the bottom of the brickwork, therefore next to an entry/exit to under the foundations. Suddenly appeared. Should I put poison surrounded by and close the hole?Or just close it? Did a cat do this? Or something else?

Answers:    cats will not chew through brickwork, the most probable culprit is possibly a mouse or a rat even, you could try just seal it off and if that does'nt work next try the poison but make sure other animals i.e. cats, birds, dogs can't obtain at it!
It is not a snake they don't dig life-size holes. My first guess would be a skunk. Get a camera with a motion detector trigger and run a picture. Inexpensive cameras are available for photographing animals at sporting goods stores.DON'T put out poison. You never know what or who you might slay. Is it causing any physical damage?
