What benign of caterpillar is this? I found it contained by the dirt of the garden. Please relief! I don't want it to die!

I found it yesterday in the dirt of my mom's garden. It's not even an inch long, so I surmise it's a baby. I know that if a caterpillar is on a palm leaf or tree that is probably its food source, but this caterpillar be just surrounded by the dirt. We planted two small trees last year contained by that garden but there is no other greenery. I want to know what concerned of caterpillar this is so I can keep it alive.

Like I said, it's smaller quantity than an inch long (7/8's of an inch), mostly lime green with white and sunburn stripe on each side above its legs. Two lighter green stripes above the white and suntan stripes and one light green stripe contained by the center of it's back. It's manager is very small, not like color as the rest of the body.

I know it's not the best description but any help would be appreciated.

I hold him in a jar of dirt, some grass, and a stick. He's still alive but I don't expect he's eaten anything.

Thank you!

Answers:    Sounds similar to a cabbage white .. but I'm only proverb that because the cat' is green ...

hmm, seems theres more than one cabbage white but I reckon you found the small one ..Pieris rapae
It sounds similar to just a regular green caterpillar (see this image) Google Image Result for http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/co... but if you dont want him to die, next put him back where on earth you found him, outside!
