What is the difference between a duvet and a comforter?

Answers: They're much one and the same, except that the duvet is meant to enjoy a removeable washable cover. The idea is that since the duvet cover is washable, you don't want a top sheet, though most people use one anyway. Which one you approaching is just personal nouns.
A duvet is generally complete with a mixture of down and feathers, usually sewn within tubes (to keep it adjectives from shifting to one side. The fabric is usually really smooth and finely woven to keep the down and feathers inside. It is call "ticking" and a country term for a duvet is a "barb tick". It may also have a removable outer cover that can be efficiently washed.
A comforter is usually full up with wool or some style of artificial stuffing. It is often cross-sewn or quilted into squares or a shape. The outer cover, at least on one side may be wool within this part of the country, but I own seen them made of multiple fabrics depending on intended use.
Generally a duvet is lighter and space heater than a comforter but a well-made comforter can be . . . . well, a comfort. I surmise the best are made with squares of fine wool textile such as that salvaged from mens suits -- or if you're lucky as I be, obtained surrounded by several books of fabric sample from a men's custom suit store. The samples come already cut into convenient squares beside the edges "pinked" to prevent fraying.
