Answers: That all depends on your financial situation. Also, you could shop around and find one that costs smaller quantity than $3000. If your A/C is over 10 years old, you'd be better off getting a strange one. Check out other places, Home Depot, Lowe's, WalMart. Keep in mind, too, someone will have to install it for you..that will cost you, too. So abiding on the unit could offset that expense.Good luck..:)

Ask for, AND CHECK references.
This could be a situation where the HVAC have been told to generate new sale. so they will tell you a repair cost will cost more, in directive to make a new mart. That's a possibility. So get more HVAC businesses in nearby to look at your existing unit, give you estimates on repairing it, and on a unusual installation. See how they all compare, and again, CHECK those references.

IF YOUR AC IS TEN YRS OLD, THE CHANCES OF OTHER PARTS GOING BAD IS HIGH. ALSO THE EFFICIENCY RATING ON A NEW UNIT IS PROBABLY BETTER. IN FACT ASK FOR ONE OF THE HIGH EFFICIENCY MODELS. YOU MIGHT SAVE ENOUGH ELECTRICITY TO PAY FOR IT OVER THE LIFE OF THE UNIT. Get more estimates. $1900 seem high but I guess they do so hoping you'll buy a new one instead of fixing yours.
fix it Get 2 more repairmen to look at it AND donot read aloud a word about money
