Why can't I use rooting hormone on cuttings for pleasant crops?

I bought some rooting hormone to use with cuttings from a gooseberry bush, only to read on the sign not to use the powder for edible crops. Is there a tangible reason why, or is this just a precautionary gauge for H&S reasons? Anyone tried it? I was hoping to pursue similar uses near other edible plants too.

Answers:    In the experience of many gardeners and growers, rooting hormones are usually unnecessary. Yes, you can use it next to fruits because they are usually slow growing and the hormones would have dissipated by the time they fruit. But use it sparingly with others as you may not stipulation it anyway.
