Why won't the lava move within my lava oil lamp?

I just get it today, and it's been on for nearly an hour,
and the wax is just collected within a giant bubble on the bottom. I shook it once or twice,
but I'm scared that'll ruin it.
I'm truly really disappointed because I've always thought lava lamp were really cool, and my mom finally permit me get one and it doesn't work!
Help?

Answers:    I hold one that is at lowest possible 8 years old. It be my sister's and I got it at Spencers. Mine other takes 3-5 hours to take going since i rarely turn it on. It may own been on the shelves for a while so tolerate it stay on a while longer. If it doesn't work by the 6th hour, I'd take it posterior and exchange it.

*update* the coil is what keeps the lava moving..it's metal and get super hot and keeps the lava flowing. They adjectives have a coil surrounded by the bottom that the lava clings to. You didn't mess it up anymore than it might already be.
According to the density of the wax and oil contained by your lava lamp you may enjoy one that just take a bit longer to get going.

I have one in college that took more or less 4 hours to heat up, my friend give me a higher voltage bulb that worked contained by a little smaller number than 2 hours. I say, in recent times keep it on for for a time while, unless it has a crack or seep in it somewhere it should seize to bubbling shortly.

Hope this helps =)
it probably have the wrong wattage light bulb within it they usually take approaching a 25 -30 watt bulb. it should say right subsequent to were the bulb scews surrounded by at. to large of a wattage will burn or de-ice the housing .be careful and fitting luck
